Learning together, growing together; inspiring our children in their journey through life.

Hedgehog

Spring Term 2018

The children in Hedgehog class have really enjoyed their ‘London’ topic this term.  In English they read and retold the story of Katie in London which helped them to learn about some of the famous landmarks of London.  After reading the story of Paddington at the Palace, the children wrote a newspaper article about the Changing of the Guards.

In Maths the children explored how to find halves and quarters of shapes by cutting up different pieces of food, and used apparatus to find halves and quarters of quantities.   They also learnt about addition and subtraction and the inverse relationship between the two operations.

In Science the children learnt about the properties of everyday materials.  They investigated which was the best waterproof material to make an umbrella for Paddington Bear.

In Geography the children looked at atlases and identified the four countries in the United Kingdom and their capital cities. They then used this to label a map.

Everyone really enjoyed the trip to London and seeing the different sights of London from the London Eye and the river boat.  The term came to a close with performances of the ‘Spring Extravaganza’ to the rest of the school and their parents.

The summer term topic is ‘Rainforests’ and we look forward to sharing our learning with you.

Welcome to Hedgehog Class

The children in Hedgehog class loved learning about the North and South Pole as part of their topic of 'Winter Wonderland' last term. In English and Computing they read and retold the story Lost and Found and created an illustrated eBook using the iPads.

In Maths the children used clocks to read the time to the hour and half past the hour and explored halving shapes and numbers. They were also introduced to the concept of place value, noting the ‘tens’ and ‘ones’ in two digit numbers, which we will continue to practise throughout the Spring Term.

In Science the children explored how the weather changes across the seasons. They worked in groups to make a seasonal collage and wrote about the main changes across the seasons.

Everyone enjoyed the Christmas celebrations at the end of the Term; the children took part in a Christmas Service at St Luke’s Church, explored printmaking techniques in Art to create a Christmas card for their family and got messy at decoration afternoon!

The topic for the Spring term is ‘London’ and we look forward to sharing our learning with you.
