Aims The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
Design & Technology is incorporated in the ‘Expressive art and Design’ part of the Foundation Stage Curriculum. We plan a range of relevant experiences for Nursery and Reception children to meet the objectives set out in the EYFS. These include asking questions about how things work, investigating and using a variety of construction kits, materials, tools and products, developing making skills and handling appropriate tools and construction material safely and with increasing control. These activities, indoors and outdoors attract the children’s curiosity and form the foundations for later work in Design & Technology.
We follow the KS1 primary curriculum for Design and Technology and teachers use the progressive skills highlighted in ‘Projects on a Page’ to inform their planning. Design & Technology is taught as part of the cross curricular creative curriculum. Children are taught the knowledge and understanding skills needed to engage in an in an iterative process of designing and making.
